Holiday for your back. Back recovery is more important than ever!

In the current time, our desire for vacation is greater than ever. The crisis affected our back health in different ways, both professionally and privately. Due to a less than optimally equipped workplace in the home office, closed fitness studios and no sports courses, many of us had less exercise and thus had to struggle with all kinds of back problems. Therefore, please pay special attention to your back relaxation during your upcoming vacation.

Holidays offer many ways to counteract back pain

Depending on what type of vacationer you are, there are many ways to do something for your back.

If you like to travel to the sea, take the time for long walks on the beach, preferably barefoot, so that your muscles benefit even better. Swimming is also a good workout for the back muscles. If your neck hurts when you swim breaststroke, try backstroke. The hotel pool is ideal for aqua jogging or water aerobics, which can also help against persistent pain.

Physical activity is usually not neglected on a hiking holiday in the mountains. Many hotels also offer a wide range of back relaxation options such as yoga, Pilates or Nordic walking. Such offers under professional guidance are ideal for beginners. Plan some time for yourself on holiday and do simple back exercises, such as exercises on all fours or light stretching of the entire back.

car, plane or train

If you are traveling to your holiday destination by plane or train, try to get up as often as possible and gently mobilize your back. On long car journeys, plan enough breaks and make sure your seat is optimally adjusted.

The luggage is optimally stowed in trolley cases with a pull-out handle. A backpack is much better suited for hand luggage than a handbag that is carried on one side. If you know that you will get back pain when sleeping on someone else's mattress, contact the hotel in advance.

What to do with acute back pain

If you suddenly get severe back pain while on vacation, don't panic. Rest in the first 2-3 days makes sense and relaxes the muscles! But then try to move as normally as possible, do light exercises that you can do with as little pain as possible, further or longer bed rest would be exactly the wrong thing.

For back relaxation, especially in the lower spine area, we recommend lying on a step during rest breaks. In consultation with your doctor, taking painkillers can also be helpful. However, if you experience acute signs of paralysis, persistent severe pain, or problems with urinary retention, always consult an emergency medical professional.

Also pay attention to the psyche

Take care of your mental well-being even on vacation and relax. Switch off from your everyday worries, because these can also cause back pain.

If you have persistent and limiting back pain, you are welcome to arrange a consultation with our internationally recognized specialists. They advise you on both conservative and surgical measures and are your competent contact for all kinds of back pain.
