General information about the research department

Welcome to the website of the Scientific Society for Minimally Invasive Therapy of the Spine

Research is a top priority at the apex spine center. dr Schubert / Helmbrecht and their team are constantly looking for improvements in the field of endoscopic disc surgery (spine therapy) to treat back pain. Specially developed instruments belong to the unique inventory of the spinal column center.

Our tasks consist mainly of following the recovery process of the operated patients with the help of questionnaires.

We are therefore in close contact with our patients after the operation and also gain insights into the effectiveness of endoscopy and other surgical procedures that we develop and carry out in-house to ensure with other studies. From them we receive information about the current state of health of our patients after a disc operation.

This data is evaluated and presented in scientific studies at international spine congresses, medical meetings, back therapist meetings, sports associations, etc. As a result, we are in constant contact with other institutes, including international ones, and can compare our data with similar or conventional surgical methods.

In our studies, among other things, the biological causes of back pain are analyzed, various conservative methods are addressed, medical preparations and their effects are compared, etc.

interesting and worth knowing publication in the Spine Journal

The latest scientific study involving Dr. Michael Schubert was published in the current issue of the renowned Spine Journal on April 20, 2008. This article reports on the endoscopic surgical success in patients who had previously undergone conventional, i.e. microscopically open, prior surgery

Operate better than inject! ... the latest study in the Spine Journal confirms:
Surgical measures with significantly better results than conservative forms of treatment for a herniated disc. The largest multi-centre comparative study to date with 2000 patients in the USA has clearly demonstrated that microsurgery for herniated discs achieves better results after 2 years than conservative treatment

SPINE JOURNAL 2008

Patients who underwent stenosis surgery and previously received epidural pain therapy showed a significantly poorer postoperative course compared to patients who never received injection therapy before the operation. This group showed a significantly higher degree of satisfaction, complained significantly less about back pain, needed less pain medication and were mobile again more quickly. This is confirmed by the latest study in the Spine Journal:
The epidural steroid treatment (epidural pain therapy, Rasz catheter, epidural injection therapy) of patients with spinal stenosis can actually lead to poorer surgical results!
