Dr. Schubert talks during the conference of orthopedic specialists from southern Germany
The internationally acknowledged spine specialist presented the results of his scientific work during two talks on two different studies. One clinical trial was on endoscopic surgery of slipped discs in the lumbar spine and the other on a similar approach for herniated discs in the neck. Both surgical options had proved tissue-protecting, safe and efficient in these clinical trials and results were received with great interest by the more than 4000 specialists that participated at the conference.
The 58th annual conference of the orthopedic specialists from southern Germany took place in Baden Baden. ______________________________________________________________________________________________

Successful ski race with two spinal disk prostheses
Mrs Fouturi suffered from most severe back problems for several years. No physician was able to help her. US spine specialists favored a stiffening surgery (fusion or spondylodesis) as a last option. After extensive diagnostics including a discography, the problem could soon be identified. The spinal disks L4/5 and L/S1 were badly worn out and caused severe pain.
Since an artificial disk replacement surgery three years ago Mrs Fouturi is pain free. She even made the third place at a ski race that had been organized by the Sporthotel Achensee for the hotel guests.
The APEX SPINE Team congratulates her on that great success.
Live surgery on the German Spine Congress in Munich
During the 4th annual conference of the German Society of Spine Surgery Dr. Schubert carried out an endoscopic lumbar discectomy as a live surgery for the first time in congress history. The intervention was directly transmitted to the conference rooms and could be watched by more than 100 interested physicians.

Surgery is better than injections!.... Recent study in the Spine Journal shows:
Patients that had undergone surgery for their herniated disk were better off than those under conservative treatment. The up to now largest multicenter study with 2000 patients from the USA could show that a minimally invasive intervention lead to a notably better quality of life after 3 months, 12 months and also after 2 years. The obtained symptom relieve was significantly better with surgery than with conservative therapy. SPINE JOURNAL 2008
