Back pain too often ends up with surgery

Back pain is one of the biggest health concerns: four out of five adults suffer from severe back pain at least once in their life. Too often patients end up having surgery to get rid of their pain - that`s what states Dr. Michael Schubert, spine surgeon from Munich.

In most patients back pain could have been prevented, the spine specialist is convinced. Every year there are about 30.000 people that go under the knife for a herniated disk: "But eight out of ten surgeries are dispensable", warns the Munich spine specialist Dr. Michael Schubert. Only in about five percent of cases the pain stems from the spinal disk.
